Zambia – Mount Sunzu
Mount Sunzu is a specialty farm in northern Zambia, in the shadow of the country’s highest mountain. It was founded in 2018 to show that great coffee and doing right by people and planet can go hand in hand.
The farm employs 300 local people and gives them pensions and health insurance for their families. It runs on solar power. 600 of its 780 hectares are protected, keeping the native Miombo forest and Dambo wetlands intact.
Origin: Mbala, Zambia
Altitude: Grown at 1,600 meters above sea level (MASL)
Variety: Starmaya
Process: Fully washed
Roast: Medium
Flavor Profile: Brown sugar sweetness and smooth cocoa, lifted by a bright hit of orange. Clean, balanced and very easy to love.
Best Brew Methods:
This one’s an all-rounder. The cocoa and brown sugar make it a natural with milk, so try it as a flat white or latte. Brew it as a pour-over or in an Aeropress and the orange really comes through.
Why Washed?
Most of our African coffees are naturals, full of fruity funk. This is something different. At Mount Sunzu the ripe cherries are pulped and dry-fermented for 24 hours. They’re then washed clean and dried on raised beds for 10 days. The result is a crisp, clean cup where the sweetness and citrus get to shine.
If you love our naturals, this is a brilliant way to taste the other side of African coffee.
